More Room for Materials. More Space for Production. Same Premises.

Mr. Max approached Rack & Save for advice on making better use of his existing unit in Gambas, Woodlands. His interior-design operations involve bulky materials in different shapes and sizes. They need organised storage, but the team also requires floor space to carry out production work.

The project brought together upper-level material storage, staircase access and production space below. Sprinkler relocation formed part of the scope, coordinating the platform with the unit’s existing services.

Rack & Save recommended and installed a Superblock Mezzanine System with a steel-grating upper deck. The completed layout makes use of the unit’s vertical space and retains a working area for production below.

Mr. Max was pleased with the completed result and asked Rack & Save to assess a friend’s unit. For his business, the project addressed a practical need: space for materials alongside room to work.

From the first call to a site-specific solution

The Challenge: Bulky Materials, Limited Floor Space and Sprinkler Constraints

Storage and production both needed room. Rack & Save planned the mezzanine around the client’s materials, access needs and existing building services.

What the Client Needed

Mr. Max’s interior-design business stores bulky materials of different dimensions. A workable layout needed distinct storage and production functions in a single industrial unit, with access between levels.

The layout needed to accommodate the unit’s existing sprinkler pipework, staircase access and movement between the storage and production areas.

Rack & Save’s Recommendation

  • Superblock Mezzanine System: create an upper level using available vertical space.
  • Steel-grating floor: the installed upper deck provides a certified floor load of 500 kg/m².
  • Working area below: plan the platform to support the client’s intended lower-level production operation.
  • Site-specific circulation: assess stairs, guarding, bulky-material handling and available clearances.
  • Sprinkler relocation: included as an added scope to coordinate the mezzanine with the existing fire-protection services.

“Build upward to organise bulky stock—but keep the floor below practical for the work you do every day.”

  3. Phase 03

    Recommend a System

Identify the Superblock Mezzanine System as the preferred approach for vertical use.

  4. Phase 04

    Plan Two Activities

Three Checks Before Turning Unused Height into Working Space

A mezzanine for an interior-design or fabrication business needs to serve both material storage and the practical movement of workers and goods.

01 / Inventory and loads

What Will the Upper Deck Hold?

Share the materials you store, their dimensions and weights, and how they are handled. These details help define the loading and layout for your project.

02 / Clear height and services

What Height Is Actually Usable?

Share the ceiling height and photos of sprinklers, lighting and other overhead services. Site measurements guide the platform level and usable space above and below.

03 / Production and access

How Will Both Levels Operate?

Plan the production footprint, stairs, guardrails, material handling, fire-safety coordination and any applicable submissions with qualified parties.

A usable connection between levels

Steel-Grating Staircase, Black Guardrails and the Upper-Deck Opening

Access is a fundamental part of a successful mezzanine. The Gambas images show open-grating treads, black steel handrails, an upper-level stair opening and railing around the deck perimeter.

The upper steel-grating deck connects to the staircase through a defined opening. Perimeter rails and black steel handrails are visible in the photographs, making it easy to review the completed access arrangement.

For your installation, start with how people and materials will move between levels. Send your layout and storage requirements to discuss the access arrangement with Rack & Save.
